Nothing Less than Everything

Have you ever thought seriously about what it takes to get to Heaven? Like, not just Heaven as a nice idea where we all hope to end up, but as a real, active goal in our lives?
We often simplify the afterlife into a choice between Heaven and Hell, God and Satan. If we don’t choose God, then by default, we align with everything that isn’t Him—whether that’s greed, pride, or indifference—and that path leads away from Heaven.
Here’s a question that might hit harder: Are we good because we avoid evil, or because we actively pursue good? It’s not enough to not be bad; true goodness requires proactive choices that align with God’s will.
This concept of total commitment to faith is beautifully captured by T.S. Eliot, who said, “A condition of complete simplicity, costing nothing less than everything.” Achieving Heaven isn’t about half measures or just steering clear of sin. It’s about investing every part of ourselves in the journey towards God.
This means every decision, every action, no matter how small, should reflect our commitment to this divine journey. It’s not merely about saying no to what’s wrong but saying a resounding yes to what’s right, and filling our lives so fully with the good that there’s simply no room left for anything else.
So, reflect: Are our daily choices moving us closer to God? Are we investing everything—our time, our decisions, our relationships—towards achieving Heaven? Because in the end, reaching our eternal destination costs nothing less than everything.
